Eloisa James' The Duke is Mine
For my first review I'm going to start with Eloisa James' The Duke is Mine. This is a historical romance from Avon publishing. I have been a fan of hers for years, and this, her latest, didn't disappoint. Part Princess and the Pea her heroine wends her way to successfully capturing her hero. (That doesn't count a s a spoiler since you already read it was a romance, and the joy of a good romance is there is always a happy ending) The story is 388 pages, and once I picked it up I was a little tired at work the next day because I couldn't go to bed without finishing it. Both were in awkward situations, she was already engaged since childhood to a dear, but simple minded, man, while he was being pushed towards marriage to her sister- who was raised to make the perfect bride for a Duke. Olivia is wild and strong willed while her Duke, Quin, is all staid and proper. A fun read, I highly reccomend it. Also check out Eloisa's facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/EloisaJamesFans for updates and articles.
Why a Country Girl reviews books
After decades of reading every type of book there is, years working at Barnes and Noble, and a renewed interest in going back to school to become a librarian, I've decided that a blog would be a simple way to start sharing the stories I love, and denouncing the ones that I don't. My favorite time spent int he book store was always when I would talk to customers or fellow booksellers about what we had been reading. Recommending new authors, rediscovering old favorites, or warning people that stabbing themselves in the eye would be more productive has always been a huge fascination in my life. Finding the perfect story to take an 11 year old boy who hates reading, and turn him into an Artemis Fowl addict, or getting a 65 year old retiree from the Marines into Janet Ivanovich was not only a challenge but it made me feel like I was making a difference.
I've read thousands of books in my life. They have made me laugh out loud, cry, fall in love, and want to smack some authors (or even editors) upside the head. There are many people that review a specific genre of story, but I plan on just writing about whatever I read. Yes there will be trends (I'm a die hard romance novel fan), but I am also willing to take any recommendations from anyone that wants to post one. You tell me to read it, I will and post a review of it here. Feel free to argue, agree, recommend, or help me warn others off of stories. Nothing is off limits, as long as it is in English. My goal is to blog a couple of times a week. At least one book I've read in the past, and one that I am reading now.
